Wisdom in the Bible
Folly is personified as the adulterous woman (9:13-18)
Subtlety in presentation...
The need for wisdom in our day...
Gossip looks like wisdom... It looks like wisdom but there is deception in it...
Proverbs about hasty words...
"He who gives an answer before he hears, it is folly and shame to him"(18:13).
"There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing..." (Proverbs 12:18)
Proverbs about interpersonal relationships...
"Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles..."24:17).
Why?
God doesn't rejoice in that. It is in the next verse, don't throw that second punch and don't allow your words to tear them down.
If your enemy falls the true Christian ethic, is it breaks your heart also.
"Like one who takes a dog by the ears is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him"(26:17).
"For lack of wood a fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, contentions quiet down"(26:20)
Creation Regained by Al Wolters
"Redemption in this image is the uncanny power by which the dog's master persuades it to become friendly and cooperative, so that the dog no longer strains at the leash but seeks guidance from it"(p.60).
Jesus, in Matthew 11:29-30
"Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls..."
...For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."
